Preventing
Child Tooth Decay – the Easy Way!
We understand that children may not brush as well as they
should. And even thorough brushing may not clean all the
deep grooves or contours of teeth. Once plaque from the
accumulation of bacteria sets in, decay will develop. Even
the smallest amount of decay will need a filling
restoration.
Let us introduce to you a way to keep this from happening.
With an application of a dental sealant to each tooth, the
chances of decay are greatly reduced.
Here’s how the sealants are applied:
After all the teeth are cleaned and sterilized, a thin
coating of a transparent varnish is applied to all exposed
areas of each tooth. A curing light is used to bond the
sealant to the teeth.
This entire procedure takes just minutes, and no shots or
drills are needed. The whole tooth structure remains intact
and it is harmless, yet very effective in helping children
and adolescents keep their natural teeth for a lifetime!
With a little imagination, brushing can be fun! In this animated video, a child teaches proper brushing tips while fending off the Invisible Nasties living in her smile.
From the video library at Colgate.com we have a short video providing fun & educational tips to teach children how to brush and why they should brush.
Orthodontics
– The Clear Alternative
If
you have always wanted straight teeth, but have not wanted
to wear noticeable braces, we have a solution for you! We
are happy to recommend to our patients Invisalign™ and
ClearCorrect™ aligners. They are innovative orthodontics
that are so clear they’re invisible, and they correct your
smile in only 9 – 15 months! They address all the problems
of crossbite, underbite, overbite, gaps, and overcrowding.
With state-of-the-art technology, 3-D computer imaging will
produce the complete treatment plan for repositioning your
teeth to a beautiful smile. Sets of transparent,
thermoplastic aligners are made to fit your teeth and with
the first set you wear, your teeth will begin to be gently
repositioned to the desired alignment. Approximately every
two weeks, you will advance to the next set of aligners as
progress is made toward your goal. Evaluation will be made
in our office every four to eight weeks. The total time for
treatment is based on individual needs. Boosting
Your Confidence
Although traditional braces work well, there are advantages
to the Invisalign and ClearCorrect systems. Most wearers
choose this option because they are nearly invisible. They
are only noticeable if someone looks at them extremely close
up. This lets you feel confident throughout your treatment.
As there are no metal or wires that need adjustments, you
will have fewer visits to our dental office. There is no
mouth irritation from these comfortable, one-piece aligners,
and no bulky headgear to wear.
The best part is you can eat whatever you want, as they can
easily be taken out for eating and cleaning. There are no
worries about plaque building up on the surface of your
teeth during treatment, as you can remove the aligners to
thoroughly brush your teeth. Savannah Dental Solutions Drs. Schnabel, Schnabel & Smith 9A Medical Arts Center Savannah, GA 31405 Phone: (912) 354-1366 Website: SavannahDentalSolutions.com
The silver-mercury amalgam filling has been the standard
material for restorations from cavities. It hasn’t been the
best option, however, as a metal filling does not bond well
to teeth, eventually letting decay seep into the tooth.
Also, the appearance of a dark, contrasting filling is not
visually pleasing, being very noticeable when you talk or
laugh. While many practices still use this filling material,
we offer durable composite resin fillings that bond very
tightly to the tooth, greatly reducing the chance of decay.
As the filling matches the shade of the tooth that is being
restored, it is not noticeable and makes for an
aesthetically pleasing appearance.
